Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a quick and safe procedure that will reduce and remove unwanted hair on your face or body. Traditional hair removal methods such as shaving, waxing and plucking, offer only a temporary solution and could in fact stimulate the growth of hair. Electrolysis can require years of continuous and more frequent painful treatments. Each of these techniques can easily result in allergic reactions, scarring, or ingrown hairs. Laser hair removal targets the pigment within the hair follicle without damaging the pores or construction of the skin. Since the hair grows in cycles through "growth" and "dormant" phases, and because the follicle has no pigment during the "dormant" phase, multiple treatments will be considered necessary.

GentleLASE is a convenient and effective laser hair removal treatment offered by the Skin Essentials @ bod:evolve staff.  There are no gels or creams, no needles, and no pre-waxing treatments required with the procedure. It is relatively comfortable and much faster than other hair removal treatments.

Procedure

GentleLASE uses a long-pulse high energy alexandrite laser. The beam of light emitted is absorbed after passing through the skin to the hair follicle and is transformed into heat. This destroys the hair follicle, but leaves the surrounding skin unaffected and undamaged. Many follicles are targeted at the same time.

Just before each pulse of the laser, the skin is sprayed with a tiny blast of cryogen to cool the upper layers and provide protection and comfort. While you will experience little discomfort, you may request a topical anesthestic if you feel you need it.

Depending on the area of the body involved, this hair removal procedure can be completed in as little as ten minutes. Since your skin is not cut or burned, you may return to your normal daily regimen immediately.

Considerations

  • Because hair grows in cycles, multiple sessions may be required
  • There may be a slight reddening or swelling of the skin, but this will subside within a few hours
  • You should avoid the sun for four to six weeks both before and after the treatments
  • Avoid electrolysis, plucking, and waxing of the areas for six weeks prior to treatments
  • Patients with darker pigmentation may not respond well, but a bleaching cream may be used four to six weeks prior to treatment for optimal results
  • Blonde, white or gray hairs are less responsive to laser treatments and sometimes cannot be treated
